Letter to the Editor: EPA takes action to clear the air in Texas
I applaud the EPA for taking action to clear the air in Texas. Many ordinary Texans can share the credit. Thousands of Central Texans wrote letters to the Obama Administration, urging the appointment of a strong environmental advocate such as Dr. Al Armendariz to lead our regional EPA office. The decision by Armendariz to protect our health deserves praise, and it would never have happened if an industry lobbyist such as the one that had been seeking the office had been appointed instead. Industry executives are now upset by the firm action to decrease air pollution. Plants in Houston and elsewhere must be cleaned up because much of our ozone pollution comes from outside our region. We are a nation of laws, and if our state won't enforce the Clean Air Act, the EPA must.
